Param Vir Chakra: The Highest Gallantry Award in
India
Param Vir Chakra is the highest wartime gallantry medal for officers
and other enlisted personnel of all military branches of India for the
highest degree of valour in the presence of the enemy, on land, at sea
or in the air. The medal was introduced in January 1950 and with
effect from 15 August 1947. It is made of bronze. It can be awarded
posthumously. Param Vir Chakra is the equivalent award of Victoria
Cross in the United Kingdom and the Medal of Honour in the United

எண்ணத்தில் தோன்றும் எரிதழலின் சிறுபொறியை, மனத்தில் உறைந்திருக்கும் சிறுமை 
எனும் மரப்பொந்தில் இட்டேன். அந்தச் சிறு பொறியின் சக்தியால் மனத்தின் சிறுமைகள் 
மடிந்தது மட்டுமல்லாமல், அச்சம், மடமை, துன்பம்,பொய் முதலிய தீமைகள் 
அனைத்தையும் கொண்ட மனமென்னும் காடே ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக எரிந்தது; சிறுமைகள் 
சிதைந்தழிந்த நெஞ்சம் நற்குணங்கள் பொலிந்து தெளிவுற்றது. இந்த விந்தை 
நிகழ்வு உணர்த்தும் உண்மை யாதெனில், வாழ்வில் அல்லவை தேய்ந்து அறம் 
பெருக வைக்க, பலனளிக்காத ஆயிரம் செயல்கள் செய்வதைக் காட்டிலும், 
செம்மைப்பட்ட சக்தி வாய்ந்த ஒரே ஒரு எண்ணம் மட்டும் போதும்; தீமைகள் 
எல்லாம் மாய்ந்து துயர் தீரும். எழுச்சிமிக்க எண்ணத்தின் சக்தியில் சிறியது 
பெரியது என்ற பாகுபாடில்லை; ஒரே ஒரு எண்ணத்தையோ, சொல்லையோ, 
செயலையோ கொண்டு பெரியதொரு மாற்றத்தைத் தோற்றுவிக்கும் ஆற்றல் 
மனிதனுக்கு உண்டு.
